Starter Motor Safety Campaign

Your safety is our highest priority.


BMW AG has announced a global safety recall related to the starter motor unit in selected BMW vehicles.

If you own a BMW vehicle, your car may be part of this recall. To verify, please enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in the widget below.

Once you submit your VIN:

  • If your vehicle is not affected, no further action is required.
  • If your vehicle is included in the recall, please wait for our service team to contact you directly. We will arrange an appointment at your nearest authorized BMW Service Center to replace the affected part free of charge as soon as the required components are available.

Important Safety Guidance

Until your vehicle is repaired, BMW AG recommends the following as a precaution:

  1. Park your car outdoors, away from buildings.
  2. If needed, disconnect the vehicle battery.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to position “0” before disconnecting or reconnecting the battery.
  4. Ensure no charger is connected to the jump-start terminal in the engine compartment.
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6. Alternatively, you may disconnect the starter motor connection cable regardless of the number of batteries connected.
