Top Seller of BMW pre-owned cars in the region
Jeddah – Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors has reported a 14% growth in its BMW and MINI sales for the first half of 2011 compared to the same period last year. The official BMW Group importer in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia delivered a total of 1,684 BMW and MINI cars to customers, ranking among the top three best performing markets for BMW Group Middle East.
Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors demonstrated its intention of completing yet another successful year for BMW Group sales as it announced that it also achieved the highest sales across the Middle East for BMW Premium Selection, the company’s pre-owned car programme. 325 pre-owned cars were sold, an increase of 55% over 2010. It was also one of the top three sellers of MINI vehicles in the region, with sales of 37 cars, an increase of 76% over last year.
Contributing to the solid performance in the first half of 2011, the BMW X5, from the popular BMW X range of Sports Activity Vehicles (SAV’s) achieved the highest growth in sales over 2010 with 74% (221 vehicles sold). The BMW 7 Series, meanwhile, was the best selling model, recording sales growth of 5% with 788 vehicles - demonstrating continued demand for BMW’s flagship model.
Not only was the BMW 5 Series the biggest selling model across the Middle East, but it was also one of the best-selling BMW cars in the Kingdom with 307 vehicles sold, a 52% growth over last year. The BMW 5 Series is a core product for BMW and combines sporting and elegant design, excellent comfort, the highest standard in efficiency in its class and sets the benchmark in driving dynamics and safety having achieved 5 stars in both the Euro NCAP and US NCAP vehicle safety assessment programmes.
Sales for MINI continue to be led by the MINI Hatch but the recent launch of the new MINI Countryman – the first MINI with four doors and four wheel drive capabilities – was a strong contributing factor to the brand's first half success. The second half of 2011 will see MINI diversify, with the launch of the all-new MINI Coupé – the first two-seater MINI and sportiest model to join the portfolio.
“We have had a busy first half of 2011 and diversified our vehicle portfolio with the launch of three new models including the new BMW 6 Series Convertible, BMW X3 and MINI Countryman. Furthermore, the continuous demand for vehicles from our existing line-up including the flagship BMW 7 Series, BMW 5 Series and X Range has contributed to us achieving good sales growth. Munich. Thanks to its segment-leading dynamic handling and versatility, the new BMW X3 has emerged as a highly successful model in the international car markets within a matter of months. The fact that it also assumes an exemplary role on the safety front has now been confirmed by Europe’s leading crash test programme. In the latest Euro NCAP crash test, the BMW X3 achieved the highest rating of 5 stars. The second-generation Sports Activity Vehicle earned its top marks in this challenging test for new vehicles thanks to its comprehensive range of standard safety equipment and effective occupant protection in various types of collision.
Achieving the best rating in the Euro NCAP crash test is proof of the very high level of the safety concept developed for the BMW X models. The new BMW X3 boasts an extremely stable body structure, and the forces exerted on the vehicle in a collision are deflected along precisely defined load paths and absorbed by generous deformation zones. Consequently, the passenger cell fulfils its function as a survival space even in serious collisions. Standard safety equipment inside the new BMW X3 includes front, side and curtain head airbags that protect both the driver and the passengers from injury. Also standard are belt latch tensioners and belt force limiters for the front seats and ISOFIX systems in the rear for attaching child seats, as well as the option of deactivating the front passenger airbag. The restraint systems are controlled by the central safety electronics, which take into account the type and severity of an accident to trigger the most effective protective features in each case.
In their evaluation of the crash test results, the assessors concluded that the new BMW X3 provides a high degree of occupant safety in all seats. Its stable passenger cell provides comprehensive injury protection in a front-end collision for both the driver and the passengers, regardless of a person’s size and the position of their seat. Here the Sports Activity Vehicle was awarded outstanding ratings for the protection of children aged around three years or 18 months in the relevant-sized child seats. For its side impact protection, the BMW X3 likewise achieved the maximum available points.
The new BMW X3 earned an outstanding rating for its active safety features as well. The Sports Activity Vehicle comes as standard with the Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC), which is linked to BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. Thanks to its wide-ranging functions, including Braking Assistant, Cornering Brake Control and the traction mode DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), Dynamic Stability Control ensures easily controllable and secure handling even in challenging driving situations. Further standard features on the BMW X3 include a Tyre Defect Indicator that warns the driver in good time of a loss of pressure in any individual wheel.
The test procedure of the NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) ranks as one of the most rigorous tests worldwide to which new vehicles are subjected. The Euro NCAP test is a benchmark for crash safety recognised throughout Europe by governments, automobile clubs and consumer associations. The test profile includes, among other aspects, a frontal collision, a side-on crash and a side impact against a steel post. Since 2009, electronic safety features have also been taken into account, along with additional injury risks in a wide range of collisions.
Last year the Munich premium automobile manufacturer was distinguished by the safety testing institute Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) with a special award for the BMW Assist Advanced eCall, the advanced emergency call system with automatic localisation and accident severity detection which is also available for the BMW X3.

Jeddah – BMW provided a live demonstration of its innovative ConnectedDrive driver-assistance technologies through an especially designed FutureLab that explains BMW’s key innovations through the senses of sight, sound and touch.
BMW ConnectedDrive is BMW Group’s philosophy of exchanging information between the driver, the car and the outside world to give the driver and passengers' information and services to help make their driving experience safer and more comfortable.
The display, which was assembled for three weeks at Kingdom Mall in Riyadh and then Marina Park Hyatt in Jeddah, was flown in especially from Munich by Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors, the official importer of the BMW Group in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Visitors were able to go inside the FutureLab and take part in interactive demonstrations of BMW technology in two of the latest BMW models, the BMW X3 and BMW 6 Series Convertible.
Commenting on the initiative, Anees Jamjoom, Managing Director of Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors, said, “As a high-traffic area that is always busy, Kingdom Mall and Marina Park Hyatt are the perfect venues for us to display this FutureLab for people to see, understand and experience the latest technological advancements that have been incorporated over the last two years into the BMW's latest product range. These features have all been designed to benefit the driver and passenger from both a safety and comfort standpoint.”
The display also highlighted Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors’ historic partnership with STC, which allows BMW ConnectedDrive functions to include in-car services that allow registered BMW vehicles to benefit from a host of powerful functions exclusive to BMW such as BMW Online.
This function enables customers, whose vehicles have the required function options, to access emails and their address book from the car, where messages are displayed on the vehicle’s monitor and accessed through the iDrive controller. Customers can also log onto their personal, password-protected BMW Online email account. In addition, passengers can use STC’s Wifi services to experience on-board internet access through their portable devices such as Smartphone’s, laptops and iPads.
Available across the entire BMW range of new models as optional features, the BMW ConnectedDrive elements fall into three categories - Comfort, Safety and Infotainment – under which there are a growing range of innovative and inspiring technologies, including:
Surround View: With Surround View, the control display offers a 270 degree bird’s eye view of everything around the car providing support when manoeuvring and parking in tight spaces.
Internet Access: Through a partnership with STC, BMW is the first automobile manufacturer to offer unlimited on-board Internet access. Once the car has safely stopped, you can surf the Web on the control display and use the iDrive Controller as a computer mouse.
Bluetooth Office: The main smart-phone functions can now be transmitted to the car via Bluetooth Office, so the vehicle acts as a mobile workspace with the ability to call up everything from notes and contacts to emails.
BMW Head-Up Display: Derived from the information technology for fighter jet pilots, it helps makes driving safer by projecting information about the current speed, route navigation on to the windscreen as a virtual image to ensure the driver’s attention stays on the road.
Advanced Emergency Call: In the event of an accident, crash sensors automatically activate the Advance Emergency Call and at the same time precise positioning data for your vehicle’s location is automatically transmitted through your BMW.
Park Assist: Allows the vehicle to parallel-park itself, where the driver only needs to operate the accelerator and brake. A sensor automatically scans parked cars for an available space. Once a suitable parking spot is found, the driver is prompted via the Control Display to stop the vehicle in order to start the parking manoeuvre.
Collision Warning with Brake Activation: This system uses radar technology to monitor distance to the car ahead and provide warnings wherever necessary. If the driver fails to respond, the system automatically brakes.
